Psychological Support for Residential Care Providers

Do you want to develop a specialist therapeutic provision that evidences improved outcomes?

About our service

We offer a bespoke consultancy and therapeutic service for providers of residential children’s care.

We have over 20 years’ experience working within residential childcare, and work within one of the leading private providers of therapeutic residential care in the country.

Meadows Psychology Service was developed to allow us to offer our clinical expertise, skills, and specialist trauma-informed knowledge to other residential providers across the country.

A growing number of childcare provisions across the country are opting for our “gold standard” package of wraparound support for their children’s homes. This includes:

An allocated Meadows Psychology Service Consultant (Lead Psychological Therapist).
Your MPS consultant will have a regular, weekly presence within the home. Your consultant will get to know you, your team, and your young people; ensuring the service provided is personal, needs-led and responsive.

A full, comprehensive psychological assessment of each young person.
The initial assessment will be undertaken over a 12-week period and is subsequently updated in line with a young person’s Child Looked After reviews. This aims to provide the staff team with a greater awareness of each young person’s individual strengths and difficulties, and guidance on therapeutic ways of working to support each child in a way that is trauma-informed and responsive. Where needed, our consultants can also undertake more specialist assessments, e.g., cognitive assessments or assessments of risk (e.g., AIM3).

Monthly consultation meetings led by your allocated consultant, tailored to the individual needs of the young people and staff team.
Monthly consultations are held to support the staff team in gaining the skills and confidence needed to work therapeutically with the young people in your care. This provides a space to explore the realms of working in complex systems with young people who have experienced trauma and provides a space for reflection and therapeutic care planning.

Individual Therapy for Children and Young People
Once a comprehensive psychological assessment (see above) has been undertaken, our specialist clinical team can deliver tailored therapeutic interventions with each young person. Our professional team of consultants have extensive experience of working with young people who have experienced significant attachment disruptions. We understand that establishing safety within the therapeutic relationship is paramount and, as such, the approach to, and pace of, therapeutic work is carefully planned in accordance with a young person’s initial psychological assessment.

Regular Liaison with Other Relevant Professionals, Families, and Carers.
At Meadows Psychology Service, we recognise the importance of providing evidence-based, trauma-informed support to young people, their families, and the range of professionals involved in a child’s care throughout their placement. Our professional team of psychologists, psychological therapists and assistant psychologist keep in regular contact with the team around the child and can provide psychologically informed advice and guidance on request and when in attendance at multi-agency professional meetings (e.g., PEP meetings, CLA Reviews).

Training and Development
Meadows Psychology Service offer bespoke training packages which aim to equip staff with the skills and knowledge needed to work with young people who have experienced developmental trauma. We recommended that all staff undertake our 2-day ‘Developmental Trauma and Attachment’ training package, and we also offer a selection of other training packages suitable for residential settings (link training page?). Further, bespoke packages of training can be developed specific to the needs of your service/staff team upon request.

Trauma-Informed Supervision for Senior Residential Staff and Registered Managers.

Our experienced clinical staff can offer supervision to managers and senior staff; providing a safe space for staff to navigate the complex and unique challenges they face when working with young people who have experienced developmental trauma.

Young Person A is eager to learn and progress academically and she has shown true determination over the last twelve months. With the correct level of support, namely from her current home and their therapeutic input, she has thrived. I would suggest that with this continued level of support, she will secure good grades in her final year.

Young Person A currently has stability in her living arrangement and high levels of therapeutic input from the in-house therapist and should [school] remain committed to supporting Young Person A, I am certain that she will prosper.
