Support for Parents & Carers

  • Psychological Consultations / Therapeutic Parenting sessions: Psychological consultations with parents offer a safe space to formulate and reflect on any here and now challenges. They can also be used to provide advice on therapeutic parenting approaches, such as PACE.
  • Foundations for Attachment programme (DDPI endorsed): A six-session programme to help parents and carers nurture attachments with their child. It is designed specifically for those caring for children whose ability to emotionally connect to carers has been compromised as a result of attachment problems, trauma, and loss or separation. This can be delivered to individual families or as a group. It consists of three core areas:
    • Understanding Challenges of Parenting
    • Therapeutic Parenting
    • Looking After Self
  • Nurturing Attachments programme (DDPI endorsed): an 18-session programme that has its foundation in an understanding of child development, and the impact of developmental trauma on children. The programme includes an understanding of how attachment and carer/child relationships form so that children can experience safety and security in their attachment relationships. This programme is split into three modules and ideally would be delivered as a group:
    • Module 1: Providing an understanding of attachment theory and therapeutic parenting
    • Module 2: Introducing the ‘House Model of Parenting’ and thinking about how a child can experience carers as a secure base.
    • Module 3: Supporting carers to use the ‘House Model of Parenting’ to build relationships with children and young people whilst helping to manage behaviour that challenges

Outcomes Monitoring

We pride ourselves on being able to evidence the effectiveness of our services. In line with the Adoption Support Fund requirements around outcome measures, we will identify the most appropriate measure for the intervention, monitor and report on the outcomes.
